Bible Studies

Women's Studies -- Grace offers a yearly summer Bible study geared to areas of interest to women. The summer study this year was a six-week study of “RUTH…Loss, Love and Legacy” by Kelly Minter.  Past short-term studies have also included World Religions, The Names of God, studies on prayer, Lectio Divina (pondering God's Word so as to become in closer commune with Him) and studies featuring presenters such as Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shirer and Beth Moore. The emphasis of our studies includes personal growth in one's Christian faith, fellowship and sharing with the community. Morning and evening classes are offered whenever possible. Our studies are open to women outside of Grace as well as to our members.

Men's Studies -- We have also offered several Bible studies for men, including studies on Peter, Paul and David. These have been done in a small-group outreach format that encourages discussions. Studies usually run for less than nine weeks. Before-class reading is not required.

Disciple -- Disciple is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. It focuses on the disciple as learner, believer, follower, proclaimer, and servant while providing the fellowship of a small group for study, prayer, preparation, support, and servanthood.

The Disciple 1 study will be offered in September.  There will be a daytime and an evening class.  The day and time for the daytime study will be determined at an upcoming meeting of those interested.  The evening classes will be held on Mondays, beginning on September 12 at 6:30 p.m., with an orientation meeting on August 29 at 6:30 p.m.  Please contact the church office at 766-1621 if you are interested in attending.

Disciple assumes that the Bible is key to renewal in the church and affirms that the canon was formed as it is in order for God to speak to us. The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God and draws upon the work of scholars to aid understanding of the Bible.

Over the course of the four-phase Disciple Bible study, participants will have studied the entire Bible in survey fashion followed by in-depth study of the whole Bible according to groupings of literature.

The first study in the program is Disciple: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study, a thirty-four week overview of the entire Bible. Subsequent studies take Disciple graduates deeper into selected portions of Scripture. Disciple: into the Word into the World concentrates on Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts. Disciple: Remember Who You Are focuses on the Prophets and the letters of Paul, and Disciple: under the Tree of Life covers the Writings, John, and Revelation. Completion of Disciple: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study is highly recommended before participating in the subsequent studies, which may be done in any order.
